The latest round of carrier reductions for TP eastbound cargo for the third week of March 2016 have pushed rates to historic lows. West coast rates are now averaging around $750 per FEU as carriers try to fill their ships with cargo anyway they can. This number is pretty astounding considering at this time last year west coast rates were extremely healthy, averaging more than double the current rate.

The driving forces behind the record lows remain the same: A soft economy and severe overcapacity caused by the influx of new mega-ships into the marketplace.

As an importer you should be taking advantage of the current buyers’ market. Let Scarbrough review your current rates at no obligation to ensure you are receiving the best rates in the marketplace.
